WHAT HAPPENS NEXT WITH THE MASTERPLAN?

Following a YES vote in ballot a planning application will be made in Spring 2022 for outline approval of the Carpenters Estate Masterplan.

This follows a full planning application that was made in November 2021 for the refurbishment of James Riley Point and the new community facility around its base.

What’s an outline planning applications?

An OUTLINE application sets out the principles of what will be built. In Spring 2022 an outline application for the masterplan will be submitted that will set out the height, width length and location of key buildings and spaces, the uses on the site, how the streets and spaces will be arranged, and the types and amount of open space, play, streets and parking areas.

If an outline permission is granted more detailed and specific information for each plot or block needs to be submitted as a RESERVED MATTERS application before anything can be built.

Cladding Removal for James Riley Point, Lund Point & Dennison Point

As part of Newham Council’s significant investment in its homes and improvements to fi re safety the cladding on James Riley Point, Lund Point & Dennison Point will be removed. This work is not related to Populo’s involvement we would have carried out regardless of the ballot result.

The Council have appointed an experienced contractor, Mullaley & Co. Ltd, to carry out these works and they will commence in the second half of this year.

Hours of work:

Monday to Friday – 8am-5pm

Saturday – Work will not ordinarily be permitted. However if the need arises, residents will be notified by the Council in advance

Sunday – Work will not be permitted

If you have any queries about these works, please contact:

Gary Bacon (Client Liaison Officer, LBN Housing)

In the event of an emergency relating to these works, or outside of working hours, please contact Mulalley & Co. Ltd on 0800 028 7353

Over the course of the last weeks we have been gathering questions from residents and have used them to compile some FAQs which are available on the website bit.ly/claddingFAQ or printed copies are available in The Dovetail.

PHASING THE BUILDING WORKS

Following a YES vote at ballot, the Council are intending to start phase one of the Masterplan, the refurbishment of James Riley Point, in autumn 2022.

While all of these dates are subject to planning approval of the James Riley Point planning application the intention is to start with James Riley Point and then the whole Masterplan will be completed over a 10 - 15 year period. The intention is that residents only move once, so a new home is built before your existing home is replaced.

Last month we shared a table of when existing homes would be replaced and what homes would be available at that point in time. You can view this table online at bit.ly/Phasingtable and the latest phasing plan at bit.ly/PhasingPlan or drop into The Dovetail to speak to a member of the team.

Have you visited The Dovetail yet?

The Dovetail is a place for the residents and neighbours of Carpenters Estate to build connections, share skills, try out new activities and get involved with their local community.

We run weekday activities, Tuesday – Friday, for residents and neighbours of Carpenters Estate. Join us for a cuppa, a chat and some great resident led workshops.

Check out this month’s programme at: bit.ly/TheDovetailCalendar We want to focus on creating activities with residents and neighbours of Carpenters Estate that meet their needs and supports: Health & wellbeing, Social connections, Training & skills, Young people. Over the coming weeks we are putting together detailed calendar of some existing and new activities and we are looking for people who can help us with activities that relate to: COOK CLUB

Residents have told us that they are interested in cooking demonstrations and opportunities to sample food as diverse as our wonderful community. Do you have a speciality dish you would like to share? Or does this sound like something you would like to come along to? Then let us know and we can start making a plan together.

Well-being club

We know that all of us need a little bit of help to focus on what helps us feel good. From nutrition, movement, mindfulness and some kindness to ourselves and each other. Every Thursday morning we will have an activity that feeds our minds, bodies and souls. If you have skills in leading breath work, gentle movement, mindfulness, pampering, nutrition or anything you think can connect to the notion of wellbeing then get in touch.

CANAL STROLL

We are looking for a new host for our canal stroll reboot. Do you love walking and have a knowledge of the local area? Or perhaps you want to learn a bit more about the neighbourhood and would be confident to lead a walk? We are looking for somebody to plan and lead a weekly guided walk. If that sounds like you then get in touch.

Do you want to get involved?

There are paid opportunities for people to plan and run their own sessions as well as lots of activities that they can take part in for free.

Alongside these sessions we have programmes of activity that offer skills and training to support everybody to thrive.

If you have an idea for something you would like to run in The Dovetail or just want to find out more please contact Saudat Adinani at Populo Living on 07389821819.

Other ways of getting in touch:
